Death By Chocolate Cake

DEATH BY CHOCOLATE CAKE




INGREDIENTS
  • 125 grams of butter
  • 1/3rd cup cocoa (sifted) 
  • 2 cups flour (sifted)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups caster sugar 
  • 2 eggs
  • Half a cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup water
  • Buttercream frosting *
  • Chocolate Ganache**

METHOD
  1. Place water, butter & cocoa in sauce pan. Gently melt over low heat. Keep aside
  2. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda & sugar. Pour in the cool cocoa mixture.
  3. Add eggs in the mixture (one at a time), buttermilk & vanilla extract. Whisk until the batter comes together. 
  4. Divide the mixture in 2 pans and bake for 40-45 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 160 degreesC.
  5. Cool and ice with chocolate ganache and decorate buttercream frosting.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING - 1*
  1. Melt 1 cup cooking chocolate. Cool completely.
  2. Add 2 cups icing sugar.
  3. Add 125 grams softened butter (unsalted).
  4. Add 5 tablespoons of milk
  5. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  6. Whisk together all the above till nice and smooth & fluffy.
  7. Frost The Cake. 
  8. The remaining can also be piped on top of the cake. 

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING - 2*
  1. Add 100 grams butter in a bowl
  2. Add 500 grams cream cheese 
  3. Add 2 cups icing sugar (sifted)
  4. Add 1/2 cup cocoa (sifted)
  5. Whisk all together.
  6. Frost The Cake.

CHOCOLATE GANACHE**

  1. 200 grams cream.
  2. 250 grams dark cooking chocolate chopped.
  3. Melt creme over sauce pan on low heat.
  4. Once it comes to a slight bubble, add the chopped chocolate pieces.
  5. Whisk till both melt.
  6. Cool slightly and ice the top of the cake with the ganache.
  7. One can even frost the cake with the ganache once it is cooled down and thickened in the refrigerator.
